A heavy earthquake struck the southern coast of Japan today and made the people frightened. It has been reported that a severe earthquake hit Japan; a major life loss and a great damage have been feared. Still there is no report which can tell us about the accurate casualties and damage. Japanese Meteorological Agency officials stated that it was a dangerous earthquake and was recorded 6.6 on the Richter scale. According to the United States Geological Survey, this earthquake hit the southern coast with a force of 6.4 by the Richter scale.
According to the fresh reports, it happened today at 1:10 am EST, it has been reported that the depth of the quake was six miles below the surface. It was recorded 70 miles off the shore of a small island Miyakomina which is located in the Ryuku Islands. The aftershocks were also felt in Taiwan, weather authorities have issued a tsunami warning in the area.
As we know that Japan is the country where earthquakes are common, Japan is the most quake prone area of the world also. Last year in 2009, more than five quakes were reported in Japan with the magnitude from 6.6 to 7.1 on the Richter scale. A heavy earthquake rattled the main buildings of the Japanese city Kobe with a huge magnitude 7.2 in 1995. It was reported that more than 6,4000 Japanese lost their lives and many lost their homes. A great damage and plenty of injuries were also reported that time in Japan.
Officials have been working to assist the quake victims since the quake struck the Japanese southern coast. We do not have any information regarding the requirements of medical supplies, shelters and other things in the area.
