USC LECTURE SERIES EXPLORES ROLE OF SENSES THROUGHOUT HISTORY

Many of us take our senses for granted. We use them in almost everything we do, but we don’t pay them very much attention.

Well, an exciting public lecture series at the University of South Carolina by my good friend, professor Mark M. Smith, will explore how each of the five senses have functioned in the past. The series will draw on examples from across the globe and throughout time.

The first of the six-part series will be Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 5:30 p.m. and will focus on sight. The evening lecture series is $50.00 and is open to the public.

Smith is widely recognized as one of the pioneers in the new field of “sensory history.” From The New York Times and the London Times to Science and Brain, Smith’s work on the history of the senses has attracted features and reviews and generated discussion.
